Route 1

 

Khentii – birth place of Chinggis Khan, the founder of the Mongolian Empire.

 Day 1.

Hotel check-in. Visit the Gandan Monastery, the national Buddhist religious center. Visit to a museum of a choice of availability. Evening tour of Ulaanbaatar city center.

Day 2.

Leave Ulaanbaatar for a Baldan Bereeven monastery reconstruction site, located within the Gorkhi Terelj national park, geographically the southern edge of Siberian Taiga.

Day 3.

The Gorkhi Terelj national park area is rich with wild life, large collection of wild flowers and plant population. Possible sighting of some wild animals, including wolves.

 Day 4.

Leave Gorkhi Terelj for Dadal soum in Khentii aimag. Camping and exploring of Onon river and the Doloon Boldog mountain areas where the Great Khan Chinggis was born and where also his secret burial site is believed to take place.

Day5.

Leave Dadal for Ömnödelguer soum and camping near nomadic herders. Stay with nomadic herders, explore their livelihood, traditions, animal herding and husbandry.

Day 6.

Leave Ömnödelger to Tsonjin Boldog. Lodging at the “Winter Palace of Chinggis Khaan” tourist camp. Visit the biggest equestrian statue of Chinggis Khaan (claimed to hold the world record), archeological museum with rich exhibits of BC periods and hiking. Ulaanbaatar.

 Day 7.

Leave Tsonjin Boldog for Khogno Khan mountains and camping at Tarnai river.

 Day 8.

Explore the Khögnö Khan Mountains, Khadagt Khoshuu – a shaman ritual site and sand dunes of Elsen Tasarkhai. Possible riding of two humped/Bactrian camels.

Day 9.

Leave Khögnö Khan mountains for Khar Khorum-the capital of Mongolia during the middle ages. Visit the Erdene Dzuu monestary founded by his Holiness the first Bogd Zanabazar, who was the spiritual leader and the head of state during the 17th century.

Day10-12.

Leave Khar Khorum for Orkhon river valley in Khujirt, a famous Yak (Bos grunniens) breeding country. Stay with nomadic herders, explore their livelihood, traditions, animal herding and husbandry. Visit Orkhon river water fall.

Day 13.

Leave Khujirt for Khustai Mountains, where Przewalski's horses (Equus ferus), the last surviving subspecies of wild horse were reintroduced since early 1990’s.

Day 14.

Leave Khustai mountains for Ulaanbaatar – souvenir shopping, a traditional Mongolian music and dancing performance and farewell dinner.

Day 15.

Leave Khustai mountains for Ulaanbaatar – souvenir shopping, a traditional Mongolian music and dancing performance and farewell dinner.
