Khövsgöl/Northern Mongolia – the country of Shamans and Reindeer People.

Day 1.

Hotel check-in. Visit the Gandan Monastery, the national Buddhist religious center. Visit Bogd Khan winter palace museum. Tour of Ulaanbaatar city center.

Day 2.

Leave Ulaanbaatar for Amarbayasgalan monastery, rich with religious exhibits and legends. Geographically the monastery is located on southern edge of the Siberian taiga.

Day 3.

Leave Amarbayasgalan for Uran Togoo Mountain with unique landscape. Travel through Erdenet mining town, 2nd largest city in Mongolia.

Day 4.

Leave Uran Togoo Mountain for Ikh-Uul soum. Visit the Khar Balgas the remains of the ancient Uyghurs’ civilization.

Day5-6.

Leave Ikh-Uul soum for the Lake Khövsgöl through Mörön city. Tour the Lake Khövsgöl wilderness, observe Shaman rituals and livelihood of reindeer people.

Day 7.

Leave the Lake Khövsgöl for Tsagaan Ovoo in Arkhangai aimag/province. On this rout there will be many “khiregsuur” - mass burial sites of ancient periods.

Day 8.

Leave Tsagaan Ovoo for Tariat soum/district in Arkhangai aimag.

Day 9.

Tour of Khorgo-Terkh national park area’s breathtaking view of the Terkhiin Tsagaan lake, the Khorgo volcano crater and encounter yak (Bos grunniens,) herds.

Day 10.

Leave Tariat for Tsetserleg city. During this part of the trip we will enjoy the scenery of Chuluut river canyon and visit ethnographic museum of  “Zaya Gegeen”.

Day 11.

Leave Tsetserleg for Khar Khorum - the ancient capital of Mongolia. Visit the Erdene Dzuu monestary founded by his Holiness the first Bogd Zanabazar - the spiritual leader and the head of state during the 17th century. Visit archeological sites.

Day 12.

Leave Khar Korum for Elsen Tasarkhai sand dunes. Possible riding of two humped-Bactrian camels.

Day 13.

Leave Elsen Tasarkhai for Khustai Mountains, where Przewalski's horses, the last surviving subspecies of wild horse were reintroduced since early 1990’s.

Day 14.

Leave Elsen Tasarkhai for Ulaanbaatar. Souvenir shopping, visit museum and traditional Mongolian music and dancing concert.

Day 15.

Arrive at the airport and depart Ulaanbaatar.
